Effinger Doorway
The entrance to the genealogy/local history room of the Fairfield County District Library is a doorway distinguished by its Georgian fanlight, Palladian window, and Ionic Greek Revival columns. This doorway formerly belonged to the house of Lancaster copper- and tinsmith Samuel Effinger who built his home where present-day Shaw’s Restaurant & Inn stands (123 North Broad Street, Lancaster) in 1823. After this house was demolished in 1929, the doorway was moved to the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, where it remained until it was fitted into the construction of the main library of the Fairfield County District Library, which opened in 1980.
